SS14 Must Have: Little White Dress!

Behind The Seams: Rihanna’s CDFA Fashion Icon Award Dress by Adam Selman

Posted on Tuesday, June 3, 2014

Rihanna shone bright like a diamond (thousands of them) last night at the 2014 CFDA Fashion Awards held at Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center in NYC, wearing a sheer, all over crystal embellished dress, with matching gloves and headscarf, a custom creation by Adam Selman.

“It’s so naked”, her stylist, Mel Ottenberg, shared with Style: “I don’t know if it’s shocking—I’m with her all the time, so my shock gauge is off, but I told her that I thought she was ready for this dress a while ago, and that I wasn’t. I’m the prude, and I’m just catching up. I did this look for her so she’d have a good time. This was the perfect night do to something fun, and I wanted her to have something great that you couldn’t find anywhere else in the world”.

Adam Selman, who said he couldn’t have made this masterpiece without his MAJOR team, added: “The dress is just fishnet and crystals and a couple of fingers crossed. But fashion is about beauty, and the [female] body is part of that. She’s daring, she’s bold, and she’s not afraid of fashion. She doesn’t let fashion overcome her. She embraces it and makes everything she puts on her own. Not many people do that” (read more on Style).

At least 8 people worked about 19 hrs nonstop putting on the finishing touches. The look features over 230,000 Swarovski crystals, every single one of them glued on by hand.

Baby pink Pologeorgis fur stole, Paul Morelli ring and earrings, Jacob & Co. ring and Manolo Blahnik sandals completed this year CDFA Fashion Icon‘s most daring look ever. #killedit
